![]() In 2006, 1.4 million watermarks were printed instead of 1.4 million banner pages, which saved approximately 120 trees. Now, simple watermarks denoting the owner's Net ID and job name are printed along the edge of the first page in each print job. Originally, a banner sheet preceded each print job. In 1998, complaints from an environmentally aware students led to another major printing change in Cornell's computer labs: replacing banner, or cover, pages with watermarks. "With Net-Print, we have the rare opportunity to be both environmentally conscious and economically efficient." "If students weren't charged for printing, they would be charged indirectly -probably more so because they would be paying for other people's bad printing habits," said Net-Print specialist Rick Cochran. ![]() Environmentally speaking, that saved about 2,200 trees last year. If you don't charge for printing, people will print just about anything.Ĭase in point: in 2006, Net-Print, a laser printing service offered by Cornell Information Technologies(CIT), printed approximately 9 million pages, which was about 27 million pages fewer than would have been printed if Cornell did not charge for printing (estimated using comparative statistics from another Ivy League university that doesn't charge for printing). It was a bold move, and it was the first in a series of initiatives to conserve environmental resources. Have I encountered this issue before? No.Eleven years ago, Cornell became one of the first campuses in the United States to charge students for printing in its computer labs. Heating System in Place: Yes 3 heaters temp controlled.Īmount of rolls printed before I encountered problem: About 3 Rolls. When I removed the cover and checked the print heads there was tiny bits of dust all over the printhead and surrounding areas. I thought it may be the dampers but now I think it could be the static build up because I do pull the power plug off the wall when working on the printer. ![]() I have tested 3 different rolls of material and its the same issue on all so it is not the vinyl. So either the dampers are contaminated with something or its something else.Ĭan't remember but within 24 hours of changing the dampers when I touched the printer switch to put the printer on it gave me a stong static shock. This has only started since I changed the dampers. I have attached an image with a sample print. The only issue I have right now is the white spots. I initially blamed the dampers in which I have ordered some more but I am now thinking it could be the static and if it is how do I fix it it? Has anyone had this problem and has found a fix around this problem. I increased the heaters slightly but has not helped. A day or so latter I checked the printheads on the printer and had noticed a bit of fine dust sitting on the print heads, pump tubes etc which I blew out with a an air gun.Ĥ. I have used 3 different rolls of material and I still get the same issue which rules out the vinyl.ģ. ![]() I remember either on the day or a day after or a day before hand I touched the printer to switch on and I got a small static shock when I touched the printers control panel to switch on.Ģ. I am not sure if the dampers were contaminated but I can only point this issue to a few things.ġ. The printer does not print white but the area has not been filled with colour. I started to get white spots on the print. I checked the dampers and these were loose so I changed them, problem fixed and back to printing I went. Everything has been going well until one of the colours dropped out.
